These books are so beautiful to look at and read – they almost make up for not being animated. Fans of the series will revel in how the story continues organically from where the series left off – especially focusing on Zuko’s family and the Fire Nation. The illustration is spot on, the colors lush, and the story true to the canon.
Story: Azula has been revealed as the leader of the shadow-figures Kemurikage. With the help of Mai’s father, Azula is rounding up children and spreading fear throughout the Fire Nation. But Zuko isn’t alone – along with Aang, Mai, and more, they will track down Azula and bring an end to the tyranny that is chipping away at the foundation of the Fire Lord’s rule.
Some new characters have been added but for the most part, this is all familiar faces. Zuko has a rival for Mai’s affections and he also wants to save both Mai’s and his siblings. There is some conflict with Aang but this really is Zuko’s show.
The language is easy and early readers should have no problems with the simple sentence structures of the dialogue.
I really can’t recommend this highly enough – it’s so wonderful to see the story continued and true to the world. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
