Raise Your Grade by Denise Gossage

Raise Your Grade is a very teen-friendly guide to help kids be more detail oriented in their study habits. The book is easy to follow and the points are well made throughout. The focus is on understanding how to revise written work to make it better and more effective.

Autho Gossage uses the PUMP method – Plan, Understand, Memorize, and Practice – and explains the importance of each of these steps. From mnemonics to taking the time to read better, it’s really an essential guide for ensuring that the work produced by a student is of a higher quality before being handed in.

I gave this to my 15 year old and her first thoughts were that the concepts were obvious. But then she found the techniques useful to actually apply the concepts – they became concrete rather than nebulous. We are looking forward to using these when school starts in August to help improve her work and ultimately ensure better grades. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
